Ar-Rahma Mosque in Kiev

Fulfilling the command of Allah, the Religious Administration undertook construction of the first Mosque in the history of Ukrainian capital. This event was a great step in improvement of Muslim Society in our country, since, striving for it and attempts to build it were undertaken as far as a century ago, in 1857.

The Muslims of that time managed to open just a place of prayer "on Mirnaya Str 5" in Kalinovich house, which is situated in Podol. In the beginning the 20 century the place of prayer was moved " on Mirnaya str 4", that was registered in the address book " The Whole Kiev" in 1909. The place of prayer at that time was a temporary way out, since there was an idea to built a Mosque for simultaneously praying Muslims. A city newspaper "The Kiev Thought" (October 30, 1973) reported about the laying the first foundation stone of Mosque on "Gogolevskaya Str 29. But plane to build a Mosque didn't take place because of "The first World War, revolution and further events connected with it. The next attempt to build a mosque was undertaken in 1991. The first foundation stone of the building was laid after the opening ceremony of The First Muslim congress, which was held in 1994. It was named The Mosque Ar Rahma (Mercy).

Mosque construction was gradually carried out, owing to the means donated by Muslims of the city. The first part of the construction has already been completed and since 1998 the prayers are held here on Fridays, religious prayers and celebrations and other events alike.

In 2001 in new Mosque for the very first in the history of Kiev the religious celebrations- Ramadan and Qurban Behram were carried out, where simultaneously praying Muslims. The Mosque construction is going to be completed. A special hall for religious meetings and prayers equipped with modern acoustic techniques are included in the Mosque project. It also has the Islamic library. DUMU took the responsibility to replenish it with books and other editions in Arabic and Russian.
